VMware Tuning

The performance of my Windows VM was since switching to VWware never really satisfactory. The Version 2 VMware has not the situation improved. So time for some tuning :-)

My Windows VM was Versoion for a staggered set up VMware: first a Network Setup a VM (Type "Other"), then a VM based on it by the Type "Windows" (so that people could install the VMware Tools). The result was two interdependent Windows file system files. And performs worse with time. So: Reinstall the Windows VM in a VM only - with version 2 of the VMware is now.

The second tuning step: Capacity Enlargement! On computers that means more RAM. Doubling from two to four gigabytes in the Mac, so the VM can now use a whole instead of half a giga.

now running Windows in the VM pretty neat, I could take back the assignment of two used for Windows CPU cores on one - which enjoys the parallel current Mac applications.

An additional step could be a (re) Change of virtualization be, because Parallels virtualized Windows faster than VMware . But for us now is VMware Standard ...

Pokemon Goldene Edition Rom Deutsch

length: 10.5 Leopard, but ...

Just before preparing for the next version of Mac OS Leopard seen the light of the world I have my MacBook Pro finally lifted from 10.4 to 10.5.

But what a shock: "Connect to Server ..." is an error -6602 and sometimes comes a kernel panic !

Apparently Leopard no longer connects properly with the Windws servers, here is the statement from Microsoft:
Cause: Windows Server 2008 implements FileShare scoping. In previous versions, if you browsed a Virtual Cluster Network name or the node name, you were presented with all the file shares being hosted on the node (local and clustered). Scoping uses the network name to identify if the browse request if for a cluster file share or local. If it's a cluster network name, it only returns the file shares in the group that is associated with the network name. If it's the local name, it only returns the local shares. The same is true when connecting to a file share, the correct network name must be used. When connecting or browsing with an IP address, it will only access to the nodes local non-clustered shares.
- Leopard 10.4 works, because we can see in the network traces that it provides the network name.
- Leopard 10.5 does not provide the network name, only connects via IP address, Which causes this issue.
Well, what can you do? User Windows Admin who set up a special access to the Shares (Merci!), so you can connect again.

I also have reported the problem via the Apple feedback page . The issue is certainly known, but "constant dripping wears away the stone" ...

As for the kernel panics: they are gone. Maybe the Re-Install VMware has solved the problem.

The MSIE teach a tar.gz download

in various TYPO3 installations that I am responsible (corporate web presence, corporate intranet, sports club), I use the TYPO3 backend extension "Full Backup". This creates a dump of the MySQL database and packaged it with the TYPO3 program directories all in one. tar.gz archive together that you can download then.

annoying in this context is a feature of MSIE, when downloading from a. Tar.gz file to create always. Tar.tar extension, which then installed local decompression program like Total Commander, etc., of course, begin to know som.

Even in the Save In dialog, the proposed. Tar.tar through. Tar.gz about halfway, he makes stubborn again. Tar.tar it.

only by appropriately placed quotes around the full file name around in the Save In dialog, you can wean the MSIE's "own intelligence" so that the backup file is placed correctly with the extension. tar.gz on your hard disk. can
