iPhone SW 2.0 - good and bad

Yesterday it was done - I mean (U.S.) 2G iPhone with PwnageTool to firmware version 2.0 has brought (see instructions at iClarified ) and are released. The whole process took about two hours read the documentation customize firmware, reset iPhone and then another 15 giga data transfer back to the iPhone.

It all worked out quite well, even to dial into the Swisscom network ran the update without problems. Then the joy came the new features this - a few highlights:
  • The AppStore with the many programs such as the iTunes / AppleTV remote, AIM and Facebook client Shazam , etc.
  • The direct access from iPhone to Exchange Server (in our office is not possible because the WLAN is not directly to the internal network is).
  • Many small improvements such as a viewer for PowerPoint-mail attachments, searching of contacts, etc.
today but then came the great frustration: the synchronization with my business calendar ( via iTunes / Outlook ) no longer works #!!¿%#$!£!! After many trials and endless reading of support articles ( here, here , here, here , here ...) I have come no further - BIG SHIT - this is really a small GAU!

that remains is the knowledge that many people have the same problem and hope that Apple fixes the bug soon - stay tuned ...

So if you sync over his appointments on the iPhone 2G iTunes/Exchange-2003, nor should stay away from the 2.0 firmware!

Update: with the just released version 7.7.1 of iTunes is working again to synchronize the Exchange calendar. However, not right away: first it took a lot Geknorze with this and this instructions from the iPhone Calendar Forum .

How To Tie A Belt With Holes

links to files (update)

now is find my widget another way, file links in the Windows format just under To open Mac OS: the extension WinShortcutter dominated now a mapping function.

Then it goes like this: Link Mark>>> Menu Safari (depending on the active program)>>> services (or services )>>> Open Windows Link . If the link points to a Share , it should already be connected, otherwise it will not do.

very beginning but you have to define in the system settings from the mapping WinShortcutter. Here are some examples:
  • Map from \\ \\ OurFileServer \\ DeptShare on Map to / Volumes / DeptShare
  • Map from M: on Map to / Volumes / DeptShare
What is a problem still: if the link is on an HTML page behind a text, you can not mark it and the function of the service menu does not work.

pure text (lwp.) - Ease of removing formatting from clipboard text

passages from one application to another using cut-and- to incorporate the paste, makes most every time. annoying in certain situations is the fact that not only the text, but is also adopted its format in the target application.

I call two typical cases from my professional life where I just want to avoid this as far as possible to the existing formatting of the destination application not to mess up:

  • text passages that someone sent to me via e-mail , to the editor of the editorial system TYPO3 are taken
  • I write an e-mail and take over parts of the text, derived from e-mails from other people

One way , get rid of the unwanted formatting, is an intermediate copy the text to the Windows own editor notepad.exe. If in notepad.exe then Ctrl + A and then pressed Ctrl + C, one has the text on the clipboard without formatting.

Of course this method is cumbersome in the long run, here comes the freeware pure text into the game, which can be downloaded here
http://www.stevemiller.net/puretext/
. After installation, you have a new icon "PT" in the system tray, right-click can be (formatted) text that is in the clipboard, convert it to text without formatting:

DeskPins - some windows are forced to the forefront

On some occasions it is n & # 252; useful, the program window to force still in the foreground, so that they constantly keep the focus. Some programs for this purpose in an options dialog a "stay on top", "always on top" or similar named function, but most applications do not.

a program where I do something to me would be the remote control tool TeamViewer, which I use several hours every day for customers remote maintenance. For remote maintenance, it often comes time to idle time, say something in the remote control session is initiated, the hold times can also run a half hour (more complex database extensions, etc.). This idle time I use it like to read alongside other things like e-mail, do Web research, and so on. It's is possible but that in the remote session something happens that requires intervention, but this I did not notice for several minutes.

Here is the freeware Deskpins comes into play, download here:
http://users.forthnet.gr/pat/efotinis/programs/deskpins.html

to install the software, there is little to say, the tool starts automatically with Windows and settles in the system tray:

Per -> right click -> Enter Pin's Fashion
