How To Ward Off A Chest Infection

iPhone business as usual

For about half a year I own an iPhone 3G, now with firmware 2.2.1. time for a report on the suitability for use in business environment!

The Apple smartphone is my indispensable companion become - both privately and in the office. It makes it very much pleasure to use: the service is unmatched and it is very versatile - especially thanks to the many programs available on the AppStore.

The Internet in your pocket has become a reality. Especially if you have a data option - and that is not really in Switzerland with 10 francs per month for 100 MB expensive (as opposed to Germany). I often throw even more at home on the laptop to any place on the web.

Calendar: the synchronization with Exchange (via iTunes) works well, but there are a few small imperfections:
  • You can do on the iPhone is not private records (which are then after syncing the Outlook calendar for outside not visible) . At such events one must add the appropriate 'Häkli' by hand in Outlook.
  • The calendar on the iPhone does not display week - a pity. It has yet Apple Safari shown how to represent large views on a small screen and then just can zoom in on interesting regions.
  • In Outlook acquired Meeting records participants will not be displayed.
  • should more than one calendar can be downloaded to the iPhone: eg from the office via Outlook and iCal of private .
addresses and bookmarks: I synchronize my private addresses and bookmarks to the iPhone - it works very well. Somewhat impractical is that these two points together with the calendar can be synchronized only really from a Mac or PC. For mixed sources have to switch so to speak, when the addresses and bookmarks only from time to synchronize is not so dramatic.

mails I send from an IMAP-enabled Account, so I have not synchronize. This works for POP accounts, but obviously good.

Direct Exchange connection : I can not use, unfortunately, as our Exchange server is not directly accessible via W-LAN and the iPhone has no support for the we used VPN solution . But Safari can be used without major problems Outlook Web Access (OWA) via VPN .

are very practical way, a dock the phone, the iPhone Stereo Headset and the official iPhone Manual .

There are of course some points at which something is suspended - it is amazing, that makes the iPhone, despite the long list so fun ... Anyway, here are the features I miss:
  • Copy / paste does not work
  • No Files are easily transferred via USB or Bluetooth or saved. not
  • The Mac OS keychain can not be synchronized
  • The iPhone as a modem for a laptop can figure
  • notes from Outlook or Apple Mail can not be synchronized
  • The phone list is missing the duration of the talks.
  • For the SMS when you create, the length will be displayed.
  • The camera is slow and makes moderate amount of light only bad images; also can not record movies.
  • photos can only be delivered separately from the photo album, multiple photos in a mail that is not possible.
  • Safari supports still no Flash.
  • The Smart Groups from the Address Book will not sync.
That's my opinion, highly recommended iPhone Apps:
  • Evernote paint (between Mac, PC and iPhone sync Notes)
  • SBB timetable or GottaGo (schedule)
  • Scribble ( or something to draw pictures)
  • convert units (units, very well resolved)
  • 1Password (password management with Sync for Mac)
  • HappyDayz! (Display of next birthday)
  • shop shop (handy shopping list: sortable, easy entry by underline)
  • Baby Monitor (calling a predefined number when the baby cries, very useful when a wireless baby monitor not far enough) sends
The iPhone has even (unfortunately?) no built radio receiver . But thanks to the many eg Radio DRS or Swiss television missing podcast available he was not sure. Especially since the podcasts now directly via wireless or telephone network can be had landed. For converting DVDs and other media for the iPhone are Handbrake is very good.
